What is pilates

Pilates is a physical exercise that focuses on improving flexibility, strength, and body awareness. Developed in the early 20th century as a method of rehabilitation and exercise

There are many potential benefits, including:

  • Improved flexibility by focusing on stretching and lengthening the muscles, which can help improve overall flexibility.
  • Increased strength: Pilates require you to use your own body weight as resistance, which can help build strength in the muscles.
  • Improved posture due to a focus on strengthening the core muscles, which can help improve posture and reduce the risk of back pain.
  • These exercises often require balance and coordination, which can improve them over time.
  • Stress relief: Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise that can help reduce stress and improve overall well-being.
  • Increased body awareness by emphasizing proper form and alignment, which can help improve body awareness and control.

Pilates can be done with minimal equipment with a a thin, padded mat being the bare minimum. But it improves greatly when using its specialized equipment, which is what you will be able to find at our studio in Vienna.

Reformer

A Reformer consists of a sliding carriage, adjustable springs, and a footbar, and is used to perform a variety of exercises that target the core muscles, as well as the arms, legs, and back.
The sliding carriage can be adjusted to provide different levels of resistance, and the adjustable springs allow for a range of resistance levels as well. The footbar can be used to provide additional resistance and support during certain exercises.

There are additional complements to the Reformer such as the spine corrector or the jump board.

Chair

Also known as a Wunda chair, consists of a small platform with pedals that can be pressed with the feet, and a vertical frame with handles. Chair exercises often involve using the pedals and handles to perform various strength and stability exercises.
